The ravishing beauty — African Tulip

Standard

.

Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful;
they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.

A tree with tulip like, scarlet -orange flowers growing abundantly in bunches is a sheer showstopper. I just could not get over its beauty and every time I sighted it I felt a tug in my heart!

It looks quite like the palash but it is not. It is the African Tulip tree (Spathodea Campanulata).

Also known as the Fountain tree or pichkari, flame of the forest, rudra palash, rugtoora, patadi or Nandi flame.

The buds contain water and if its pierced or slit the water splashes out like a fountain, hence the name Fountain tree.

This flowering tree is ornamental because of the eye catching bloom and suitable for hummingbird pollination.

There is another side of this beauty, its invasive nature. It quickly becomes the dominant tree wherever it is growing and in this condition it becomes extremely difficult to remove it. They have a way of growing back from root fragments and wind-dispersed seeds.

Flowers don’t worry about how they’re going to bloom.
They just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautiful.
