Landour Speaks; A Photo Essay

Landour Bakehouse

Landour is a charmer in many ways. One of them being the quotes that are displayed here and there.

We came across these cute and mostly known quotes written on the garbage bins along the path. Sadly, with the place no longer featuring in the unexplored or less explored category, we had garbage strewn around the bins! I wonder if its a Herculean task to drop it inside and keep the place clean?

Some quotes, befitting a hill could be seen on the trees…… one of my favorite is “There is no wifi in the forest but I promise you will find a better connection

Landour Bakehouse, is a charming cosy place, with awesome baked goods, interesting decor and quotes all around ❤ Their ‘no smoking’ quote had me grinning 😀

So here are the quotes you all will love!
If you have been there …. relive the memories and if you plan to go there….. look out for them 🙂

And yes before I forget ….. sign board reading “I’M KLEEN” is a regular feature around there. I took it as Kleen = Clean till I discovered it was short for Keeping Landour’s Environment and Ecology Natural.

The mantra chanted while ringing the temple bell

Aagamaarthamtu devaanaam gamanaarthamtu rakshasaam,
Kurve ghantaaravam tatra devataahvaahna lakshanam

(I ring this bell indicating the invocation of divinity, so that virtuous and noble forces enter;
and the demonic and evil forces, from within and without, depart)

 Trivia on Significance of Temple Bells

“.….here is a scientific reason behind temple bell presence.  The bell is not made up of just an ordinary metal. It is made of various metals (panchaa dhaatu or asthaa dhaatu) like cadmium, lead, copper, silver, gold, brass, iron, zinc, nickel, chromium and manganese.

The proportion at which each one of them is mixed is the real science behind a bell. Each of these bells is made to produce such a distinct sound that it can create unity of your left and right brain. The moment you ring that bell, bell produces sharp but lasting sound which lasts for minimum of seven seconds in echo mode good enough to touch your seven healing centres or chakras in your body. The moment the bell sound happens your brain is emptied of all thoughts.  Invariably you enter the state of trance, a state where you are very receptive. …...”
